In Memory

Duckback Duke of EarlWelcome to our In Memory page. Over the years we have seen many of our wonderful labs pass. We have laughed at the memories and cryed tears of loss. Here is a story that Anne has written to share. - Janis (webmaster)

“IN MEMORY”

This, perhaps, is the most difficult part to write about and share with others about our Labs, as well as those puppies who have found the love and passion of others. There’s something special about dogs, but especially labradors. They love with such passion and forgiveness. They always want to be at your side … whether it’s in the kitchen, beside the bed, at your feet in the bathroom. Ah …. And that smile on their face and wagging tail. Even when everything may have gone wrong at work or anywhere during the day, they are oh so happy to see you. They may do something wrong and you have to scold them, but they never sulk, they just come right back up to you and ask for forgiveness with a big lick. Yes, life is very short, way too short for our beloved Labs. However, they leave us for the Rainbow Bridge with a deep hole in our heart but we know they will be waiting for us.

I want to take this opportunity to share with you a brief story of a very beloved lab of a family whose male, Earl, developed cancer way too early in his life. The wife was pregnant and they were so afraid that Earl would not be able to last very long. Oh, indeed he did …. Just so their darling baby son could touch him and love him for that brief period of time. Somehow our Labs know more than anyone would ever give them credit. This family has allowed me to share their pictures of an awesome dog who gave so much during his lifetime. Rest easy, dear Duckback Duke of Earl.

A Poem

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.” Author Unknown
